Streaming sticks are now threatening to put more fuel on the cord-cutting menace Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) having unveiled its own with all the features needed to stream HDMI content. Amazon Fire Stick will make it even harder for people to go for set-top boxes given its beefed up internals as well as ability to access content from third party providers.
Fire Stick Features
Ample processing power, dual-band Wi-Fi all with Alexa voice remote all but affirms Amazon Fire Stick credentials when it comes to streaming content. While retailing for $40, Fire stick will provide the most affordable way of accessing Alexa capabilities that can span a landscape of more than 6000 apps.
In a bid to push Amazon Fire Stick to more homes, Amazon will be offering a one-month free subscription to Sling TV. The offer will also include two months of Hulu subscription as well as access to Amazon Video.
While the new Fire stick costs the same price as its predecessor, the inclusion of the voice remote should make it an exciting pick in an industry filed with alternatives. In addition to being lightning fast, it also includes plenty of content, as it is not limited to Amazon. On Amazon content, users will be able to use voice commands to fast forward or even rewind content for designated amount of time.
Fire stick will also support music requests from the likes of Pandora, iHeart Radio as well as Amazon Music unlimited. In addition to streaming content Alexa, integration will allow people to carry out additional tasks such as order an Uber or Pizza.
Amazon is also planning a major update of all the Fire TV devices before the end of the year. A firmware update will be on offer in addition to a new user interface that seeks to offer a more cinematic experience while viewing content.
Given the low price point, Amazon Fire Stick should be a compelling choice even though it is gunning for market share in a field that is already filled with alternatives. Alexa integration, a new interface as well as speed boost are some of the features that are expected to make it an exciting pick.
Amazon stock shed $7.37 in Thursday trading session to close the day at $81.32 a share.
